The NY Times has recently reported on the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle in an article titled ‘Is Sitting a Lethal Activity?‘.
The article, in the NY Times Magazine’s annual health issue, highlights the dangers of being inactive, and how being sedentary can cause a cascade of metabolic consequences. Marodyne’s science is targeted towards stemming this deterioration.
The NY Times article ‘Is Sitting a Lethal Activity?‘ reports on a recent study into why some people put on weight more than others looked at finding the magic factor which made some people put on weight while others did not. It found that the people who didn’t gain weight, despite adding an extra 1000 calories to their diet, were the ones who unconsciously moved around more. This was achieved not by exercising, which was banned, but smaller less obvious methods such as using the stairs more or doing more chores around the home.
The actual act of sitting is no more dangerous than other postures but it is the inactivity that leads to bad health.
